Epson Stylus SX400
Competition in the multifunction inkjet printer market is stiff, so the Epson Stylus SX400 needs to be pretty impressive to stand out from the crowd. One of the most important factors of an inkjet printer is the cost of the replacement printer ink cartridges, as in some cases this can be more than the printer itself. Fortunately this is not the case for Epson SX400 ink cartridges and in fact the SX400 using a more economical ink system than most of its competitors. The Epson ink cartridges are made of four separate ink tanks one for each colour which means only the coloured used need to be replaced and the remaining ink and cartridges are not wasted. Every though the SX400 only uses a four colour ink system it produces surprisingly good results for all types of documents including photos. Text documents have a sharp, well defined look and the photo prints it produces are full of vibrant color tones. The SX400 doesn’t just offer printing however, it also has a built in A4 flat bed scanner, which is hard to believe because the overall size of the device is so compact but Epson have done well in packaging a slim line scanner in that despite its size packs a good punch. Its 1200dpi maximum resolution produces amazingly sharp result with good speed too. The scanner also comes with software for editing photos after they are scanned and OCR software for converting printed text into editable digital format. The photo copier also uses the scanner bed for copying documents with a good balance of speed and quality. The SX400 has a number of features that work without the need for a PC to be present, one of which is the photocopier and the other is printing from a memory card or digital camera thanks to its built-in memory card reader and PictBridge connection. The SX400 offers all of this with a price tag under £70 and is excellent value for money.
